KUWAIT May 13. 2024 (Saba) - Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued Amiri decree last night to form a new government that includes 13 ministers headed by Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
In a speech broadcast on Kuwait TV, the prince said: "I will never allow democracy to be exploited to destroy the state."
Last Friday, Kuwait's emir announced the dissolution of the National Assembly and the suspension of some articles of the constitution for no more than four years.
Kuwaiti journalist and political writer Hussein Jamal said in a statement to Al-Mayadeen that the formation of the new government comes within the framework of serious work to manage matters and start the reform project.
He added: "The authority considered the interference in the powers of the Emir of Kuwait recently a provocative step."
It is noteworthy that the Kuwaiti National Assembly is the legislative authority in the State of Kuwait, and consists of 50 members elected by the people, and the ministers of the government who are not elected to the National Assembly are ex officio members of the Assembly.
While the Kuwaiti Constitution stipulates that the number of ministers should not exceed one third of the number of deputies, the Prime Minister shall be counted within the mentioned number.
