GAZA May 16. 2024 (Saba) - The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has welcomed the convening of hearings at the International Court of Justice to consider the request submitted by South Africa to take additional measures regarding the continuation of aggression and the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people.
In a statement carried by the Palestinian Media Center on Thursday evening, the movement considered the convening of the sessions as an important step towards criminalizing the occupying entity, which ignored previous court rulings and persisted in its aggression against our people.
Hamas highly appreciated South Africa's stance, which closely follows the details of Zionist genocide against the Palestinian people and its insistence on activating international justice to ensure the cessation of the entity's practices against Palestinians.
The movement stated that this is consistent with the statement made by the President of the Court, affirming that the interim measures requested by the court did not address the consequences of Zionist genocide against the Palestinian people.
This necessitates the court to take further decisions to compel the occupation to stop its aggression, withdraw its army from the entire Gaza Strip, and open crossings for the entry of aid without obstacles.
The International Court of Justice, a United Nations body, began hearings today for two days to consider South Africa's request to ensure the cessation of "Israel's" military operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, which more than half of Gaza's population resorted to in search of a safe haven.
