Fares meets OCHA Communications Officer

SANA'A May 19. 2024 (Saba) - The Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Fares, met today with the Head of the OCHA Communications Operations Sub-Office, Najwa Makki, who is currently visiting Yemen.

During the meeting, they discussed issues related to the humanitarian situation in Yemen, and highlighted the worst human suffering in the world that the Yemeni people have been experiencing as a result of the aggression and blockade for nine years.

At the meeting, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Council welcomed the Head of the Branch Office for Communications Operations, stressing the importance of coordination between the Council and OCHA.

He referred to the efforts made by the Supreme Council in facilitating the work of organizations in various sectors, including the media sector. He pointed to the importance of the visit to see the humanitarian situation from reality and cover humanitarian interventions more to convey the picture clearly.

The Assistant Secretary-General explained that the humanitarian situation in Yemen is still deteriorating as a result of the aggression and blockade nine years ago, which has worsened catastrophically after the suspension of food aid since August last year.

He reviewed the role of the Council and its efforts to facilitate the work of organizations, and to demand more interaction of organizations with the Council in the media aspect in accordance with the drawn plans.

For her part, the Head of the OCHA Communications Operations Sub-Office appreciated the Council's role in facilitating her visit to Sana'a. She explained that the aim of her visit is to shed light on the humanitarian situation to highlight the crisis in Yemen, and to advocate for attracting funds.

The meeting was attended by a number of stakeholders in the media of the Supreme Council and OCHA.
