Tehran sets June 28 for presidential elections

TEHRAN May 21. 2024 (Saba) - The tripartite committee in Iran has reached an agreement to schedule the presidential elections for June 28, following an initial consensus forged on Monday between the Constitution Association Council and the election committee.

As reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the initial agreement stipulated that the elections would take place on June 28, with the aim of inaugurating a new president on July 8.

As per the approved electoral timetable, candidate registration is slated to occur from June 10 to 14, while the campaigning period will span from June 23 until the morning of July 7.

In accordance with Article 131 of the Constitution, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, has announced that Vice President Muhammad Mukhbar will assume the presidential duties on an interim basis. He has urged Mukhbar, along with the heads of the judiciary and legislative branches, to make necessary preparations for the presidential elections within a span of 50 days.
