EU deplores Israeli forces' damaging medical infrastructure in Gaza
[21/ May/2024]
BRUSSELS May 21. 2024 (Saba) -The European Union is deeply concerned at the Israeli attacks on medical and civil infrastructure in Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and at civilians' sufferings in Gaza, the EU High Representative and Commissioner for Crisis Management said on Tuesday.

Out of 36, 31 hospitals were partially or totally damaged since the beginning of war on Gaza, Josep Borrell and Janez Linarich added in a statement, noting that Shefa'a, the largest medical compound in Gaza, is still out of order.

The remaining hospitals partially operate under severe restrictions, they said, as the dire situation pushed many hospitals to brink or to closure.

While the Palestinians in Gaza are living under persistent bombing and over 9,000 critically wounded people are facing death because of its lack, emergency healthcare is now more important, the EU officials said.

Since 7 October 2023, the WHO recorded 890 attacks on health facilities, including 443 in Gaza and 447 in the West Bank, they added, calling for an end to attacks targeting health workers, hospitals and ambulances.
