Russia, Uzbekistan sign over 20 documents to enhance trade, economic relations

TASHKENT May 28. 2024 (Saba) - Russia and Uzbekistan have concluded more than 20 documents aimed at bolstering their trade and economic ties, as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Tashkent.

Russian President praised the bilateral relations, stating in a press conference with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as reported by Russian RT channel, that conducive conditions for direct investment have been provided thanks to the implementation of previous agreements at the highest level.

He added that nearly 3,000 companies are operating in Uzbekistan with Russian capital participation.

Putin also noted that several major infrastructure projects are being developed in priority sectors in Uzbekistan, such as the copper processing plant.

Following three and a half hours of talks, the Russian and Uzbek presidents signed a joint statement, along with a package of agreements comprising over twenty documents.

These include an agreement on constructing a low-capacity nuclear power station in Uzbekistan, a cultural cooperation program, a bilateral trade expansion action plan, agreements on joint scientific research, film production, and memoranda of cooperation in machinery and aircraft manufacturing.

Putin highlighted the opening of a full-fledged trade mission for Uzbekistan in Russia to boost joint projects, and the launch of a joint investment platform.

Meanwhile, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that the initial capital of the joint investment platform between the two countries, which is set to be launched, will amount to 500 million dollars, indicating that Russia is a major trading partner for Uzbekistan, with bilateral trade having increased 2.5 times over the past seven years.
