Gunfire near U.S. Embassy in Mount Lebanon

BEIRUT June 05. 2024 (Saba) - Lebanese and Russian media outlets reported on Wednesday gunfire directed towards the U.S. Embassy in the Aukar area of Mount Lebanon.

Lebanon's "Al-Bi-Si" channel reported continuous gunfire lasting approximately half an hour in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy in the Aukar area, north of Beirut. The channel added that "the road leading to the U.S. Embassy from Dbayeh and Aukar" was blocked.

Meanwhile, Russia Today website reported the death of one of the gunmen firing towards the U.S. Embassy in Mount Lebanon.

In turn, "Al-Bi-Si Ayy" channel stated that "one of the guards of the U.S. Embassy was injured and one of the gunmen was killed, while another injured gunman was arrested, with the search ongoing for a third armed individual."

The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon issued a statement stating: "Gunfire was discharged with light arms near the embassy entrance this morning, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances."

It added: "The embassy premises and our staff are safe thanks to the intervention of the Lebanese army forces and the embassy's security team."
