Stanford University: Arrests made amidst pro-Palestine protest
[06/ June/2024]
WASHINGTON June 06. 2024 (Saba) - More than a dozen individuals were apprehended by American security forces at Stanford University in California following a demonstration against the U.S.-backed conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident unfolded as pro-Palestine students congregated inside a building housing the university president’s office to protest against the ongoing genocidal war. According to the Stanford Daily student newspaper, approximately ten students gained entry to the building around 5:30 a.m. on the final day of the spring semester, while roughly 50 others formed a human chain outside, chanting slogans such as "Palestine will be free."

Upon their arrival, the Stanford Department of Public Safety (SUDPS) and the county sheriff's office swiftly detained the protesters assembled in front of the president's office. University spokesman Dee Mostofi disclosed that these individuals are facing immediate suspension.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the Liberate Stanford group asserted that "an independent group of students" had entered University President Richard Saller's office to demand divestment from companies associated with the conflict in Gaza, among other requests.

The arrests mark a continuation of the crackdown on student activism in recent months, with hundreds of students detained for organizing demonstrations and sit-ins against Zionist aggression in Gaza.
