Iran enters electoral silence ahead of presidential elections
[27/ June/2024]
NEW YORK June 27. 2024 (Saba) - The National Elections Commission of Iran has initiated electoral silence ahead of the presidential elections scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, June 28.

The commission officially concluded the campaign period for presidential candidates as of eight o’clock this morning, Thursday.

According to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior’s media center, the electoral silence period, mandated under Article 66 of Iran's 14th presidential election law, requires cessation of all campaign activities to facilitate a fair electoral process.

The Electoral Commission issued a directive urging candidates, their supporters, political parties, and the public to refrain from any form of propaganda during this period.

Following withdrawals by Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi and Ali Reza Zakani, four candidates remain in contention for the presidency: Mostafa Pourmohammadi, Masoud Pezeshkian, Saeed Jalili, and Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.

The election follows the tragic helicopter crash on May 19, which claimed the life of President Ebrahim Raisi and seven others, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian. Candidates began their campaigns on May 30 after the candidacy period opened.
