TEHRAN June 28. 2024 (Saba) - The 14th presidential elections in Iran commenced on Friday morning, with all polling stations open across the country and abroad.

Iran's Interior Minister, Ahmed Vahidi, announced the opening of ballot boxes at over 58,000 electoral centers within Iran and 300 centers outside the country for electing the President of the Republic.

According to Tasnim International News Agency, the 14th Iranian presidential election started on Friday morning, coinciding with 138 diplomatic missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran abroad.

Minister Vahidi emphasized that the elections signify the honor, greatness, and strength of the Iranian people.

They showcase the political maturity and growth of the Iranian populace, underscoring the sensitivity and importance of the electoral process.

Four candidates are vying for the presidency after Ali Reza Zakani and Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi withdrew, leaving Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf, Saeed Jalili, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, and Masoud Pezeshkian in the electoral race.

Earlier, Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi stated that over 61 million voters are eligible to participate in the elections.

The voting will continue for ten hours, until six in the evening today, with a possibility of extension.
