Iran holds second round of presidential elections

TEHRAN June 29. 2024 (Saba) - The Iranian Presidential Election Commission announced on Saturday that “a second round of presidential elections will be held between candidates Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili next Friday, with neither candidate obtaining more than 50%.”

Iranian Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi said today, Saturday, according to the Iranian Tasnim Agency, that the first round of the presidential elections has ended in its fourteenth session.

Wahidi stressed that the presidential elections were held in complete security, with serious competition, and in the presence of valuable people.

The Iranian Interior Minister also announced the start of propaganda campaigns for the second electoral round tomorrow, Sunday, until Wednesday, and the electoral silence begins next Thursday morning, and the elections are on Friday.

After counting all ballot boxes in 58,640 centers in 482 cities in the country, which collected 24,535,185 votes, Masoud Pezeshkian received 10,415,191 votes, or 42% of the total votes, and Saeed Jalili received 9,473 million. One thousand and 298 votes, or 39% of the total votes.

While the candidate, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, received three million, 383,340 votes, or 14% of the total votes, and the number of Mostafa Pourmohammadi’s votes reached 206,397 votes. The canceled ballots recorded 1,56,159 votes, equivalent to 4% of the total votes.

According to these results, the two candidates, Pezeshkian and Jalili, have moved to the second round of the 14th Iranian presidential elections, which will be held next Friday, July 5, 2024.
