MOSCOW June 29. 2024 (Saba) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that the production of medium- and short-range nuclear strike systems must begin, and decisions must be made on where to deploy them, in response to US actions.
"We announced in 2019 that we will not produce these missiles, we will not deploy them until the United States deploys these systems in some regions of the world," Putin said during a meeting with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council, adding: "We need to start producing these strike systems and then, based on the actual situation, make decisions about where they are."
The Russian president accused the United States of not only producing these missile systems, but said it had already brought them to Europe for training.
It is not known whether the United States has removed medium- and short-range missiles from the Philippines, where they were previously delivered as part of exercises.
The Russian president had earlier stressed that threats against Russia should be taken seriously, appropriate responses should be planned, and the country's armed and naval forces should be strengthened, warning of an increasing degree of geopolitical tension in the world, especially against Russia.
