Director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex: International action is required to save detainees
[01/ July/2024]

GAZA July 01.2024 (SABA) -The director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, confirmed that many of the detainees were martyred under torture in the prisons of the Zionist enemy. Calling for urgent international action to save the detainees from torture.

Abu Salmiya said at a press conference at the Nasser compound in Khan Younis hours after his release on Monday: "We are happy to be free from the occupation prisons, I, my colleagues and other prisoners, about 50 prisoners." He pointed out that they left behind thousands of prisoners to taste the torment in the occupation prisons, which no one has tasted since the Nakba.

He also stressed that the old prisoners were deprived of their most basic rights. He pointed out that many of the prisoners died while in the basements of the interrogation.

He said: Many colleagues and doctors we left behind and we hope that they will be released. He pointed out that doctors Adnan al-Borsh and Iyad al-Rantisi were martyred under torture, while many colleagues are still being tortured.

He revealed that Zionist doctors and nurses participate in torturing and beating prisoners and detainees in violation of all laws and moral rules.

He also stressed that all prisoners lost 30 kg each, and that patients were denied treatment, while the feet of drunk prisoners were amputated because they had no treatment.

He called on international organizations to visit prisons to stop this bleeding. He said: "This is our message to the world and the prisoners' file must be present in any negotiations to stop the repression.

He stated that he was arrested on November 22, 2023, while passing through the Netzarim corridor, which the Zionist enemy claimed was the safe passage after his army stayed for 13 days in the Shifa Medical Complex, and said: During which I was in contact with the coordinator and the officers and when we went out in a UN convoy on their eyes and that we were out to deliver the patients, but the occupation betrayed that and arrested me on Netzarim and did not charge me.

He revealed that he was subjected to three trials and there was no indictment against him, which proves that his arrest came for a purely political reason and that the occupation inflated the Shifa Medical Complex, and when he found nothing, he was arrested.

He continued: "My discharge today demonstrates that there was no accusation that we would do my job. I heard from my colleagues that the hospital was so devastated we promise to rebuild it and be an edifice that serves all of Palestine, not the Gaza Strip, and will return in a few months.

He reiterated that he had been tortured and had broken his thumb as a result of torture and continued to suffer from it today.
