MOSCOW July 1. 2024 (Saba) - A source in the Russian Ministry of Defense on Sunday said Moscow has made modifications to some of its warships and provided them with platforms to launch Zircon hypersonic missiles.
According to the Russia Today website, the source added that Russian experts have modernized two warships developed within the framework of Project 20385, with the aim of equipping them with platforms for launching winged and hypersonic missiles.
The “Gremyashi” and “Provorny” warships obtained platforms to launch different types of missiles, including winged “Calibr”, “Onyx”, and “Zircon” hypersonic missiles, the source said.
The Russian "Zircon" missile reaches a speed of Mach nine (about 11,025 km/h) and can hit various targets at distances of up to 1,000 km.
As for the warships that Russia is developing within the framework of the government project 20385, each ship is about 104 meters long, 13 meters wide, and has a water displacement of 2,220 tons.
It has the ability to sail at a speed of 27 knots and cover a distance of 3,500 miles on each mission.
These ships are armed with anti-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, systems for launching Russian winged “Calibr” and “Onyx” missiles, in addition to two АК-630М systems, two 30 mm machine guns, and systems for launching torpedoes.
