NEW YORK July 13. 2024 (Saba) - Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, reiterated his urgent plea to the international community to intervene and halt what he described as the Zionist massacre of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
According to the Palestinian News Agency “Wafa,” Mansour emphasized in letters sent Friday night to the UN Secretary-General and the presidents of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly the critical need to protect Palestinians in accordance with international law and the binding interim measures issued by the International Court of Justice.
"There is no safe haven left for our people. The Occupation has devastated the majority of Gaza, considering it a legitimate target, and persisting in systematic and grave violations of international law," Mansour stated, condemning Israel's disregard for international humanitarian and human rights laws, and its failure to uphold civilian protections during wartime.
Mansour condemned the illegal forced displacement of civilians by the Occupation, describing it as ongoing and traumatic, especially affecting vulnerable groups such as children, the sick, wounded, and disabled. He noted that even areas designated as humanitarian and UN shelters have been turned into areas of violence and death by Israeli actions.
Despite the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2735 (2024) a month ago and enduring nine months of atrocities, Mansour lamented the absence of a ceasefire and meaningful protection for civilians from Israeli retaliation.
Calling for an immediate ceasefire and accountability for what he termed decades of crimes against humanity committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, Mansour urged swift international action to end the devastating conflict in Gaza.
