BRUSSELS July 16. 2024 (Saba) - The European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, confirmed on Monday, the rejection of any attempt to classify the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization.
Borrell said, during a press conference, that the tragedy in the Gaza Strip "has crossed all limits," stressing that what is happening is "unacceptable."
Borrell condemned the settlers' repeated attacks on humanitarian aid convoys heading to the Strip.
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, had spoken about efforts to dismantle the agency and classify it as a "terrorist organization," stressing that "dismantling it will lead to the collapse of humanitarian work, and millions of Palestinians will pay the price for it."
Lazzarini said that "there is no alternative to the agency in the Gaza Strip, and it is the basis of humanitarian response efforts there," adding that "Gaza has been destroyed, and more than two million people are trapped in hell."
Lazzarini also stressed that the attacks by Zionist settlers, military incursions, and the destruction of homes and vital infrastructure are part of the system of oppression.
