PANAMA CITY July 24. 2024 (Saba) - Panamanian border police announced on Wednesday, the recovery of ten bodies of migrants after they drowned while trying to cross the "Darien Gap" area between Panama and Colombia.
Reuters news agency quoted the National Border Service "SinaFront" as saying: "The ten bodies that were found were on the banks of the dangerous Darien Gap River while trying to reach the United States."
It pointed out that "the risk of migrants drowning increases during the rainy season due to the rise in river levels."
The increasing migration prompted Panama to strengthen border security and request international assistance
