50 US Congressmen Boycott Netanyahu's Speech
[24/ July/2024]
NEW YORK July 24. 2024 (Saba) - Politico reported today, Wednesday, that a large number of Democratic Party members in the US Congress boycotted the speech of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to an ongoing census of public data collected by Politico, many of the most prominent Democratic Party stars in Congress will not be in the House of Representatives hall to listen to Netanyahu's speech today.

Among the most prominent figures who abstained from attending the speech:

Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, Speaker of the House Pro Tempore Patty Murray, Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Representative Alexandria O'Casio-Cortez, and Representative Ro Khanna "California.

The newspaper pointed out that more than 50 members of the Democratic Party in Congress announced their intention to boycott Netanyahu's speech or not attend it, and it is expected that more representatives will announce their non-attendance later today.

The newspaper indicated that this number is close to the 58 members of Congress who did not attend Netanyahu's speech in 2015.

According to the newspaper, the decision of the Democratic representatives was not well received by many Republicans, as Republican Senator John Cornyn described the Democrats' boycott of Netanyahu's speech as "shameful" and "a concession to the most extreme elements in the Democratic Party base."

In addition, American media reported that the Capitol Police began spraying Pepper spray at protesters trying to cross police line ahead of Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress.
