Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, described the situation as unprecedented.
Dr. Abu Safiya attributed the spread of skin infections to poor sanitation, lack of cleanliness, and inadequate medical treatment.
The infections are characterized by severe symptoms, including high fever, persistent crying, and refusal to eat or breastfeed among affected children.
The condition, which the medical community is encountering for the first time, poses serious risks, including the potential for the infection to enter the bloodstream and cause sepsis, which can be fatal.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has emphasized that families in Gaza are living in "inhumane conditions" with severely limited access to clean water and sanitation.
This lack of resources has exacerbated the spread of skin diseases.
UNRWA has called for increased humanitarian aid, including regular fuel deliveries to ensure access to clean water and hygiene supplies.
Additionally, the Gaza Ministry of Health has issued warnings about the potential spread of the polio virus, attributed to the deteriorating sewage system and overcrowded living conditions.
The ministry noted that the combination of overcrowding, poor sanitation, and lack of personal hygiene supplies creates an environment conducive to the virus’s spread.
