MOPH: Providing quality medical devices worth more than $ 78 million in five years

SANA'A August 15. 2024 (Saba) - During the past period, the health sector has suffered greatly from the lack of medical equipment, which represents the backbone of modern medicine, and this suffering has been exacerbated by the continued aggression with its systematic targeting of health facilities.

Over the past years, the Ministry of Health has worked to implement rehabilitation projects and establish an infrastructure that meets the needs and contributes to alleviating the suffering of patients by providing basic and qualitative medical equipment to government medical facilities at all levels, including bodies, hospitals, specialized centers, units, facilities, and others.

During the past five years (2019-2023), the health sector witnessed successes in the indicators of equipping hospitals, centers, and health units to achieve health and treatment security for citizens in light of the continued aggression and siege.

Despite the gravity of the crimes committed by the aggression against the health sector and the systematic destruction of its infrastructure, this sector was able to withstand and struggle to serve the wounded and sick and the safety of citizens' lives with its simple capabilities.

During that period, several diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment were provided to hospitals and health facilities with 41,817 equipment of 256 types worth $ 78,389,680, including magnetic resonance machines, CT scans, linear accelerators, radiation therapy, oxygen generation stations, ventilators, intensive care, X-rays, laboratory equipment, laboratory testing, dialysis devices and stations, and ambulances.

According to a report issued by the ministry, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), during the period 2019-2023, 127 anesthesia devices worth 20 million, 482 thousand and 408 dollars, and 61 X-ray devices worth 14 million, 545 thousand and 921 dollars, in addition to providing 618 ventilators worth more than ten million and 944 thousand dollars.

The report stated that thousand 291 cold chain refrigerators worth six million and 196 thousand and 800 dollars, 150 ambulances worth six million and 95 thousand and 404 dollars, in addition to 14 CT scan machines worth five million and 192 thousand and 493 dollars, and the provision of a linear accelerator for radiation oncology treatment worth five million dollars.

He stated that 723 nurseries worth more than four million and 112 thousand dollars were provided, 95 generators worth three million and 313 thousand and 370 dollars, two magnetic resonance devices worth three million and 131 thousand and 740 dollars, in addition to 15 oxygen-generating stations of different sizes worth more than two colors and 522 thousand dollars, and 40 HPLC devices for drug examination, worth two million and 400 thousand dollars.

Five thousand and 862 lying beds worth one million and 823 thousand and 271 dollars, 322 ultrasound devices worth one million and 724 thousand and 956 dollars, as well as two thousand and 78 laptops for the application of health systems worth one million and 621 thousand and 198 dollars, in addition to providing one thousand and 948 patient monitors worth one million and 621 thousand and 198 dollars, and 285 CBC blood test devices worth one million and $463,510.

The report pointed to the provision of 663 intensive care beds worth one million and 347 thousand and 326 dollars, 558 heating devices for children worth 834 thousand and 904 dollars, as well as two GC and JC Mas devices for the first time in Yemen worth 814 thousand dollars, eight X-ray machines worth 606 thousand and 609 dollars, four thousand and 42 oxygen cylinders worth 550 thousand and 78 dollars, and 385 ECG devices worth 486 thousand and $534, in addition to providing 13 PCRs worth $402,940.

The Minister of Public Health and Population in the caretaker government, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel, confirmed that contracts have recently been completed to provide quality equipment to government hospitals with the latest specifications and standards in the Middle East.

He explained that the signing of contracts for the provision of devices worth four million and 100 thousand dollars with government funding comes within the framework of the strategic directions of the state to face the challenges imposed by the aggression and translate aspirations into projects that touch the needs of patients and the interest of society.

The equipment and equipment ensure that the needs of government hospitals in Sana'a city and the provinces of Ibb, Dhamar, and Hajjah are covered, he said.

The Minister of Health indicated that the Al-Thawra Hospital Authority in the Secretariat will be provided with magnetic resonance devices, CT scans, peripheral cardiac catheterization, and cardiac electricity, as well as quality devices for the Authority's Ophthalmology Department.

The Republican Teaching Hospital Authority in the Secretariat will be provided with two cardiac peripheral catheterization devices and a CT computer, and the Thawra Hospital Authority in Ibb and Dhamar General Hospital Authority with two cardiac catheterization devices and the Heart Center at Kuwait University Hospital with peripheral cardiac catheterization.

Minister Al-Mutawakel pointed out that the CT computer will be maintained and repaired at the Republican Hospital Authority in Hajjah.

He noted the arrival of an MRI device and peripheral cardiac catheterization at the Al-Thawra Hospital Authority in Hodeidah Governorate.

The Minister of Health also stressed that the provision of equipment and equipment comes in the implementation of the directives of the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyid. Abdul Malik Badr Al-Din Al-Houthi and the President of the Supreme Political Council to improve medical services, especially for diseases that forced patients to travel abroad for treatment.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Health, based on the directives of the Leader of the Revolution and the directives of the President of the Supreme Political Council and within the framework of fulfilling the indicators of the national vision for building the modern Yemeni state, is working to empower health institutions in various governorates to meet the needs of patients, despite the continued aggression and blockade.
