CHICAGO August 20. 2024 (Saba) - US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that the United States has reached a turning point in history, noting that the upcoming presidential election will determine the country's fate for decades to come.
"We are at a turning point, one of those rare moments in history when the decisions we make now will determine the fate of our country and the world for decades to come," Biden said during a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.
“American democracy itself is under threat,” he added. “But the best times in our country’s history are ahead of us, and we are not behind.”
“We continue to work to get the hostages back and end the war in Gaza,” he added.
“We will work to bring security and peace to the Middle East,” he added, noting that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken “is currently in the Middle East working to stop the war in Gaza” (as he put it).
The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago from August 19 to 22.
US Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to accept the party's official nomination to run in the country's presidential election on November 5, 2024.
