
SANA'A August 21. 2024 (Saba) - The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning expects thunderstorms of varying intensity to continue in several governorates during the next 24 hours.
The center stated in its weather bulletin, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), that heavy rains are expected to continue, accompanied by thunderstorms, descending winds and hail on the highlands of the governorates of Lahj, Taiz, Ibb, Al Dhale'e, Al Baydha, Dhamar, Raymah, Sana'a, Amran, Al Mahwit, Hajjah and Sa'dah.
According to the center, the rains may extend westward to include the Tihama Plain and the western coasts of the governorates of Hajjah, Al Hodidah and Taiz.
He pointed out the possibility of varying intensity of rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the governorates of Al Mahrah, Hadhramaut, Shabwa, Abyan and Aden and the adjacent inland areas, as well as scattered areas of the governorates of Marib and Al Jawf.
The amount of rain that fell during the past 24 hours and was measured at some meteorological monitoring stations amounted to 64.4 mm in Zabid - Hodeidah, 50.2 in Al Mahwit, 33 in Amran, 31 in Ibb, 30 in Dhamar, 29.4 in Taiz, 28 in Sana'a, 10.8 in Hajjah, and 4.8 mm in Sayun.
Varying intensity of thunderstorms fell outside the scope of monitoring stations on parts of the western mountainous highlands, the inland plateaus, and the western, southern and eastern coasts.
The center urged citizens to take the utmost caution and avoid being in valleys and flood channels and crossing ground bridges during floods, thunderstorms, strong descending winds and falling hail.
