Culture minister calls for support to rebuild al-Baraduni’s house

SANA'A September 01. 2024 (Saba) — Yemen’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Dr. Ali Al-Yafai on Sunday called for contributions from businessmen and financiers to support the reconstruction of the late great Yemeni poet Abdullah al-Baraduni’s house.

The initiative aims to transform the residence into a museum celebrating al-Baraduni’s life and works.

Speaking at an event marking the 25th anniversary of al-Baraduni’s death, Minister al-Yafai emphasized the significance of preserving the poet’s legacy.

He urged those in the financial sector to invest in this cultural project, highlighting the poet's profound impact on Yemeni literature and his role as a unifying figure in Arab poetry.

The General Authority for the Book has also launched a project to print Al-Baraduni’s complete works and establish a dedicated website.

Head of the Authority Abdulrahman Murad outlined the extensive research and compilation efforts undertaken to bring al-Bardauni’s unpublished works to light.

Al-Bardauni’s contributions to literature, including his innovative “Mustaṭrafat” and his work on Sana’a Radio, were noted as central to his enduring legacy.

The Minister and other speakers underscored the collective responsibility to honor and preserve al-Baraduni’s achievements amidst Yemen’s current challenges.

The event was attended by literary figures and representatives from the Yemeni Writers and Authors Union, who praised al-Barduni’s lasting influence and continued relevance in Yemeni cultural consciousness.
