UNRWA: 'Appalling' conditions for 15,000 displaced people in Deir al-Balah school
[03/ September/2024]
GAZA September 3. 2024 (Saba) -The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Monday that on the second day of the polio vaccination campaign, its teams visited a school in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip "suffering from horrific conditions for 15,000 displaced people who are sheltering inside and need a ceasefire."

UNRWA spokeswoman Louise Wateridge added: "On the second day of the polio vaccination campaign in the central Gaza Strip, our teams visited children from tent to tent and classroom to classroom."

"One of the UNRWA schools in Deir al-Balah suffers from appalling conditions for the 15,000 displaced people sheltering inside," she said.

"The children of the Gaza Strip need a ceasefire more than anything else," she stressed.

Earlier on Monday, UNRWA said its teams and partners had reached some 87,000 children in the central Gaza Strip on the first day of the polio vaccination campaign on Sunday.

This came according to the director of information at the UN agency, Enas Hamdan, in a statement, in which she said that "the vaccination campaign has entered its second day in the central Gaza Strip."
