PARIS September 5. 2024 (Saba) - The French Presidency announced that President Emmanuel Macron tasked former EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier to form a new government nearly two months after the legislative elections.
Agence France-Presse reported that Barnier, 73, is the oldest prime minister in modern French history, and “was tasked with forming a comprehensive government in the service of the country.”
Barnier is forming the government to succeed Gabriel Attal after the legislative elections produced a complex political reality with none of the main parties obtaining an explicit majority in parliament.
