Typhoon hits southern China, leaving casualties, material losses

BEIJING September 07. 2024 (Saba) - Typhoon Yagi has hit southern China, leaving casualties and material losses.

The typhoon hit the Hainan city of Wenchang, causing power outages to over 800,000 homes.

The typhoon is currently heading to northern Vietnam through the Gulf of Tonkin, where it is considered one of the strongest typhoons in the region over the past decade.

Around 420,000 residents of Hainan were evacuated, while another half a million people were evacuated in Guangdong province.

In Hong Kong, over 270 people were forced to seek shelter, and over 100 flights were canceled.

Typhoon Yagi also caused landslides and flooding in the Philippines, affecting over two million people.
