GAZA - SABA: The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that at least a quarter of those injured in the recent Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip are suffering from "life-changing injuries," with many being women and children.
Rick Peeperkorn, WHO's representative in Gaza, highlighted that approximately 22,500 individuals are experiencing severe injuries, including many requiring limb amputations and extensive rehabilitation.
The current health system's destruction is exacerbating the need for rehabilitation, which is expected to take several years.
The WHO noted that between 13,455 and 17,550 severe limb injuries need urgent care, with 3,105 to 4,050 amputations occurring over nearly a year of conflict.
It also pointed out that critical services are severely limited, with only 17 out of 36 hospitals operational and primary health services frequently disrupted due to ongoing insecurity and attacks.
The WHO reported that Gaza's sole limb repair and rehabilitation center, supported by the organization, has been out of service since December due to shortages and displacement of healthcare workers.
