NEW YORK - (Saba): The UN Security Council on Thursday discussed the recent Israeli airstrikes on a school housing displaced persons in Gaza, resulting in the martyrdom of 18 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuries to others, including six UNRWA staff members.
Algeria strongly condemned the attacks, stating that humanitarian infrastructure and workers are protected under international humanitarian law and that targeting them constitutes war crimes.
The Council confirmed the seriousness of the situation and called for urgent action. Members of the Security Council, including the UK, China, Russia, France, Guyana, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, Sierra Leone, Malta, and Slovenia, confirmed the need for urgent action.
The Council also emphasized the need to fully implement decisions related to the protection of humanitarian workers, including resolution 2730 and resolution 2735.
