MADRID – SABA: On Monday, King Felipe VI of Spain accepted the credentials from Hosni Abdel Wahed, the first ambassador of the State of Palestine, following Madrid's recognition in May.
According to AFP, Spain's King Felipe VI received Ambassador Abdelouahed at the Royal Palace in Madrid, where the credentials ceremony took place, according to scenes broadcast by the Royal Court on the "X" platform.
The Spanish government recognized the state of Palestine on May 28, like Ireland and Norway.
At the beginning of September, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that "the first bilateral summit between Spain and Palestine" would be held "by the end of the year."
Abdel Wahed has headed the diplomatic mission of Palestine in Spain since 2022 and has been an ambassador. But his rank officially changed after Madrid recognized the state of Palestine a few months ago.
