NIAMEY - SABA: The Nigerien army reported on Thursday that it has killed more than 100 militants during a recent operation in Tillaberi region, located in the southwest of the country.
The operation also resulted in the deaths of five soldiers and injuries to 29 others.
State television announced that from September 15 to 18, the army's efforts led to the elimination of over 100 terrorists and the destruction of significant equipment in the region.
Of the casualties, five soldiers were killed, while 27 were injured and transported to Niamey for medical care.
According to reports, a unit of the Defense and Security Force in Niaktiri came under a terrorist attack, prompting a swift army response.
The military deployed two special forces units and utilized air assets to strike back, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers.
Following the assault, combing operations uncovered numerous bodies and dozens of motorcycles linked to the militants.
Earlier, on July 23, the Nigerien Ministry of Defense announced the deaths of 15 soldiers during confrontations with armed terrorist groups in the Ter region near the Burkina Faso border.
