BEIRUT - SABA: The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced Friday that nine people were martyred and more than 59 others were wounded following a Zionist air raid on Beirut's southern suburb.
In a statement, the ministry said: "Nine people have been martyred, and hospitals have received 59 wounded so far, eight of whom are in critical condition."
The official Lebanese News Agency reported: " Zionist Enemy aircraft targeted a building in Ruwais area near al-Qaim complex in Beirut, with ambulances rushing to the scene."
The agency added that the full extent of the human losses remains unclear at this time.
Two Lebanese security sources confirmed to Reuters that a prominent Hezbollah leader was the target of the Zionist attack, although they did not specify the identity of the individual or whether he had been martyred. Israeli army radio quoted an official stating that Ibrahim Aqil, head of Hezbollah's operations department, was the target.
Media reports indicated that a Zionist drone carried out the raid, with explosions heard and smoke seen rising in the southern suburb.
Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the attack, stating that the new Zionist targeting of Beirut's southern suburb once again proves that "Tel Aviv gives no regard to humanitarian, legal, or moral considerations" and accused Israel of continuing "what resembles genocide."
