[25/ September/2024]
Moscow – Saba: Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country reserves the right to use nuclear weapons if it or Belarus is subjected to aggression, even if it is by using conventional weapons and causing a serious threat.

Russia Today quoted Putin as chairing a meeting of the Russian Security Council on Wednesday as saying: "We reserve the right to use nuclear weapons in case of aggression against Russia and Belarus, as a member of the federal state, and all these issues have been agreed with the Belarusian side, with the President of Belarus, including if the enemy uses conventional weapons and this causes a serious threat to our sovereignty."

During the session, the Russian president proposed to discuss the modernization of the Russian doctrine in the field of nuclear deterrence, adapting it to the new military-political changes.

"Over the past year, specialists from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Security Council staff, and other departments have conducted an in-depth and comprehensive analysis and assessed the need to adjust our approach to the potential use of nuclear forces.
