New York - Saba: Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov said on Saturday that the current model of ensuring stability and security in the world is unreliable and on the verge of collapse.
Sputnik quoted Ryzhenkov as saying on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session: ‘Certain regions, certain groups of countries, such as the Global South, or certain countries united by their common interests, are no longer able to receive any adequate response or support from UN organisations, and have started to independently create certain mechanisms that would help them solve issues that fall within the UN sphere of responsibility, including security issues, terrorist activities, addressing illegal migration, and human rights.’
Citing the BRICS group and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as examples of this, the minister noted that these are evidence of the fact that the UN is failing to fulfil its main responsibility, to be a ‘link’ that takes into account the interests of all countries on the basis of the principle of consensus and the principles enshrined in all the basic documents of the organisation.
‘The countries of the Global South do not receive the necessary support from the UN, so they seek to create their own mechanisms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS,’ he said.
The Belarusian minister added that the UN is also unable to cope with the ‘flood of issues that are disrupting the international consensus on future global development issues’.
