Sana'a - Saba:
The General Authority of Zakat and the Republican Educational Hospital Authority in the Capital Secretariat held on Sunday a press conference to mark one year since the initiation of free medical services.

During the conference, Prime Minister Ahmed Al-Rahawi emphasized that the provision of free medical services is a generous gesture from the leadership of the revolution, particularly from the President of the Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat, and the government. He noted that the choice of this hospital for free services was based on its historical significance as one of the oldest hospitals in the Republic, coupled with its experienced medical staff.

"We are working in the government to implement the directives of our leader regarding the improvement of medical services and to expand this experience to other public hospitals," he stated.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the government, through the Ministry of Health and Environment, has measures in place to alleviate the severe congestion at the hospital, including referring specific specialties such as cardiology, nephrology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and ENT to other hospitals. This aims to benefit a larger number of citizens, not only within the capital but across other provinces as well.

He underscored the importance of public awareness regarding this initiative and its success, emphasizing that cooperation from all sectors is vital for the continued provision of free medical services.

Al-Rahawi reiterated that the government is committed to improving healthcare for citizens and reducing the need for treatment abroad by focusing on specialized medical approaches and continuously developing the capabilities of healthcare professionals.

For his part, Minister of Health and Environment Dr. Ali Shiban described the provision of free medical services to the underprivileged as a reflection of the revolutionary leadership's commitment to alleviating the suffering of those in need. He highlighted the role of Zakat Authority in facilitating these services.

Dr. Shiban expressed the ministry's intention to expand the project to include other provinces and cover essential medical services. He praised the Republican Hospital Authority's pioneering and successful experience, noting its ability to manage despite the significant demands placed on its medical and technical staff.

He further explained that the ministry aims to deliver medical services to rural areas to alleviate the pressure on urban hospitals, whether through medical camps or by supporting health facilities.

Shamsan Abu Nashtan, Chairman of the General Authority of Zakat, shared that the funding for free medical and therapeutic services at the Republican Hospital is valued at four billion and 800 million YER. He reported that, in the year since the launch of these services, over 305,000 underprivileged patients have benefited, receiving a total of two million and 369 thousand services, including more than 39,000 surgeries across various departments.

He acknowledged the critical role played by the Republican Hospital in managing the high influx of patients and mentioned ongoing efforts to evaluate and enhance medical services, ensuring high-quality healthcare for impoverished families.

Abu Nashtan also detailed recent projects, including the successful completion of kidney transplants for 110 patients and the inauguration of 100 new kidney transplant procedures. He highlighted the Life Support Project at the military hospital, which has provided free services, including open-heart surgeries and other critical interventions.

He announced plans to open the Prophet al-Akram Specialized Hospital for kidney transplants, emphasizing the leadership's commitment to providing dignified medical care to the needy, especially in light of the country's challenging conditions due to aggression and blockade.

The press conference, attended by Deputy Minister of Health and Environment Dr. Nasher al-Qaoud and Zakat Authority Undersecretary for the Awareness Sector Ahmed Majli, featured Dr. Mohammed Jahaf, Chairman of the Republican Hospital Authority, who reviewed the successes achieved over the past year. He commended the dedication of the medical and administrative staff and underscored the continuous support from the revolutionary leadership and the Zakat Authority.

Dr. Jahaf reported that, in the year since the launch of free services, the hospital has provided two million and 396 thousand services to 305,760 patients.

The annual report for the year 1445 AH highlighted the extensive range of medical services offered, including operations, diagnostic tests, and various medical procedures. According to the report, the adoption of free services has led to a significant increase in the number of examinations and treatments compared to previous years, showcasing the program's success and impact on community health.
