Sana'a - Saba:
A consultative meeting was held on Sunday in the capital Sana'a to update and prepare the national strategy for the development and localization of pharmaceutical industries and medical supplies for the period 2025-2030.

At the opening of the forum, organized by the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies and the General Investment Authority, Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment Eng. Moeen al-Mahaqeri emphasized that the project to update the national strategy is a key national initiative.

He highlighted the necessity of localizing the pharmaceutical industry as a crucial strategy to achieve the desired goals related to stability, social security, and economic balance in the country.

Al-Mahaqeri noted that the government's focus extends beyond merely updating drug manufacturing strategies; there is a strong commitment to overcoming challenges and advancing the nation across various sectors. He mentioned that 10 to 15 strategies are currently aimed at localizing national industries.

The minister confirmed that the update of the national strategy for pharmaceutical development will continue in coordination with the Ministry of Health, the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies, and the General Investment Authority.

He stressed the ministry's commitment to implementing the strategy in a balanced manner that does not adversely affect importers, adhering to well-studied transition phases regarding timeframes, equipment, and pharmaceutical quantities to be produced.

Al-Mahaqeri called on national investors to seize opportunities in local pharmaceutical manufacturing and emphasized the ministry's dedication to addressing challenges faced by both private and public sectors in this endeavor.

He pointed out that only 28 percent of the strategy’s objectives were achieved during its first phase, describing this as insufficient. He asserted that the goal for the second phase should be to achieve 75 percent of the strategy's objectives.

Al-Mahaqeri underscored the importance of collaboration between the private and public sectors, particularly among various ministries, to implement programs aimed at updating the strategy and enhancing the country’s economic landscape.
