Workshops to develop contract farming implementation mechanism in number of provinces

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources Ministry and the Agricultural Cooperative Union launched four workshops to develop the mechanism of implementing contract farming for the agricultural season 1446 AH, for 30 agricultural cooperative societies in Hajjah, Taiz, Ibb, Al-Hodeida and Raymah provinces.

The workshops, implemented by specialists from the Agricultural Cooperative Union cadres, aimed to provide 160 trainees from the administrative bodies of the associations with the knowledge and basics of contract farming to develop and improve them so that cooperative associations are equipped to implement this type of farming, in addition to providing members of cooperative associations, agricultural authorities and local authorities in the districts with a guide to contract farming.

The importance of the contract farming workshops lies in enhancing efforts to activate the role of cooperative societies in marketing products and overcoming the challenges faced by the societies in this aspect, with the aim of reducing the import bill and achieving sustainable development.

The agricultural crops that will be covered by the contract farming program are "sesame, maize, dates, tomatoes, peas, legumes of all kinds, lentils, fenugreek, peanuts, black beans, ginger, turmeric, coriander, cumin, and lemon."

The importance of the workshops related to contract farming lies in enhancing the efforts to activate the role of cooperative societies in marketing products and overcoming the challenges of the associations in this aspect in order to reduce the import bill and achieve sustainable development.
