Cancer Fund has initiated its sixth national campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer
[12/ October/2024]
Sana'a-Saba:
Today in Sana'a, the Cancer Fund initiated the sixth national breast cancer awareness campaign, titled "Rest assured of your health."

The campaign, ongoing until October 31, seeks to elevate community awareness regarding breast cancer, detailing its symptoms, risk factors, preventive measures, and early detection through self-examination, thereby aiding in the reduction of infection rates and associated mortality.

Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Madani, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fund, conveyed to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that breast cancer is the most common cancer in Yemen. This prevalence is attributed to the low community awareness regarding the significance of self-examination and early detection, alongside various other factors that contribute to cancer development.

He stated that the most prominent factors contributing to breast cancer are advanced age, delay in pregnancy beyond the age of 30 years, lack of breastfeeding, delay in the interruption of the menstrual cycle after the age of 55 years, smoking of all kinds, obesity, and lack of exercise.

Dr. Al-Madani stressed that breast cancer is a curable disease if it is detected early, the more it is discovered in the early stages, the greater the chance of its treatment and the higher the cure rate, pointing to the importance of the campaign to motivate the community and push it towards attention to health through regular periodic examinations, and to quickly consult doctors if one of the symptoms of breast cancer is suspected of appearing described in the awareness messages of the campaign.

He pointed out that this campaign is the sixth in a series of awareness campaigns on the most prevalent cancer diseases in Yemen, which the Fund implements as part of health awareness plans and programs for community members.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Fund called on all members of society and its institutions to interact positively with the campaign and contribute effectively to its success by spreading awareness messages through social media and media platforms to build a healthy future for all.
