Forest fires destroyed millions of hectares of land in the first nine months of this year in Brazil, according to an environmental report.
According to the report issued by the disaster monitoring network MapBiomes yesterday, large areas of forests in Brazil were affected by forest fires, with 22.38 million hectares destroyed by fires, the most severe of which was in September with 10.65 million hectares.
The report added: Among the Brazilian states, Mato Grosso, ParĂ¡ and Tocantins in the northern region of the country were the most affected, while the fires also destroyed 11.3 million hectares in the Amazon region.
