The Nigerian police announced that at least 94 people were killed and 50 others injured in a fuel tanker explosion in the north of the country.
Police spokesman Lawan Chiisu Adam told AFP that many of the victims were trying to collect fuel that had spilled onto the road after the tanker was involved in an accident in the northern state of Jigawa.
