Berlin - Saba:

German Deputy Chancellor Robert Habeck has publicly accused U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump of lying, highlighting concerns over the state of public discourse.

Speaking at a lecture hosted by the German Society for Foreign Policy in Berlin, Habeck stated, "When we say 'you are lying,' this is not merely an accusation; it is simply the reality."

His remarks, which directly referenced Trump, pointed to what he described as a deterioration in the quality of public dialogue.

Habeck’s comments come in light of Trump’s controversial statements, including claims made during a debate last September with Democratic rival Kamala Harris, where Trump blamed current President Joe Biden and Harris for record-high inflation rates in the U.S.

He has also repeatedly asserted that Germany is now building a coal-fired power plant every week due to its failure to transition away from fossil fuels.

In addition to his role as Deputy Chancellor, Habeck serves as Germany's Minister of Economy and is considered a potential candidate for Chancellor in the upcoming parliamentary elections set for the fall of 2025.
