Euro-Mediterranean HR monitor calls on UN to declare northern Gaza Strip disaster area
[22/ October/2024]
Gaza - Saba:

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has called on the United Nations to declare the northern Gaza Strip a disaster area, necessitating immediate interventions and compelling the Israeli authorities to halt the genocide and protect civilians.

In a statement, the organization confirmed that the Israeli forces are systematically displacing the population of northern Gaza amid ongoing massacres, mass killings, bombings of hospitals and shelters, and the destruction of essential living conditions. The Monitor views these actions as part of a plan to eradicate the Palestinian presence at an alarming pace.

The statement highlighted that the Israeli military has expanded its operations to include areas like Beit Lahia project and Jabalia camp. Today, Israeli aircraft dropped leaflets urging residents— including those seeking refuge in shelters and hospitals—to evacuate towards the "Indonesian" hospital in Jabalia, where Israeli forces have established a checkpoint to compel compliance.

The observatory pointed out that the forced displacement order has affected "Kamal Adwan" hospital in Beit Lahia, which has treated a significant number of casualties from the ongoing aggression.

The Israeli army has ordered its evacuation yet again, while bombings have devastated many shelters in Jabalia camp, targeting displaced individuals to enforce evacuation orders.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reported that the Israeli army has destroyed and burned hundreds of homes in northern Gaza, particularly in Jabalia camp, over the past 18 days. The death toll has risen to nearly 700, with more than a thousand injured.

Many victims remain trapped under rubble or in targeted shelters, unable to be rescued due to the comprehensive siege and restrictions on movement, which are enforced under the threat of death.
