The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it has summoned the German ambassador to Moscow, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, in protest over the establishment of the NATO naval command headquarters in Rostock in eastern Germany.
"German Ambassador to Moscow Alexander Graf Lambsdorff was summoned to the ministry, where a strong protest was presented to him regarding the establishment of the regional headquarters of the NATO Naval Command at Berlin's initiative on the basis of the NATO Naval Command headquarters," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Washington, Brussels and Berlin should realize that the expansion of NATO's military infrastructure on the territory of the Republic of Germany will have extremely negative consequences and will not remain without an appropriate response from the Russian side, the statement stressed.
