[29/ October/2024]
Doha - Saba:

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari announced on Tuesday that efforts and contacts are continuing on a deal in Lebanon. At the same time, he pointed to progress in the recent negotiations on Gaza in Doha, but stressed that "we cannot talk about the content of what happened, and contacts are still ongoing."

During a regular press briefing, Al-Ansari stressed that Qatar supports the call for an immediate ceasefire and the return of displaced people to their homes and that contacts and meetings are continuing in Doha and Cairo. He hoped that these negotiations would result in a "breakthrough".

"Since the beginning of the escalation in Gaza, we have been trying to prevent a regional war and we have been in contact with all countries in the region to reduce tensions," he said. What is happening is due to the inability of the international community to stop the ongoing massacres and starvation in Gaza and the destruction in Lebanon." He stressed that the State of Qatar will not hesitate to play its role in ending the war in Gaza and Lebanon despite the challenges.

The Qatari spokesman also stressed the need for de-escalation in the region. He said things were connected.

He added: "We in the Qatari mediation do not judge the negotiating track through press statements, but from the positions inside the negotiating halls and not through the media."

Al-Ansari condemned the continued Zionist massacres against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and the crimes committed by Israel in Lebanon, calling for the application of the standards of the war in Ukraine to the war taking place in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

Qatar's position has always been to condemn all aggression and to condemn war crimes and human rights violations.

Regarding the Israeli Knesset's decision, on Monday evening, to ban the age of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) inside the occupied territories, Al-Ansari said: "The international community cannot stand silent in the face of Zionist measures, including banning UNRWA while the agency exists and we demand support for its role." "We will continue to work with the current and future U.S. administration in mediation efforts to reach a solution."
