Spain: Seven people missing due to flooding in south, east of country
[30/ October/2024]
Madrid - Saba:
At least seven people are missing after flash floods caused by heavy rains in southern and eastern Spain, according to Spanish authorities.

Local authorities were quoted by AFP today as saying: ‘At least seven people are missing, a truck driver in the Valencia region and six people in the town of Litor in the eastern province of Albacete,’ noting that the floods also disrupted air travel at Valencia airport and railway work, and flood waters flooded roads and buildings.

The head of the regional government, Carlos Mazón, said that rescuers have recovered several bodies in Valencia, telling reporters: ‘We can confirm that some bodies have been found,’ he told reporters, adding: ‘The authorities cannot provide further details until their relatives have been informed.’

Spain's meteorological agency had declared a state of high alert in the Valencia region and the highest level of alert in parts of the province of Andalusia for storms and floods.
