Sana'a - Saba:
Minister of Health and Environment Dr. Ali Shaiban officially inaugurated on Saturday the Dermatology, Venereal Diseases, Cosmetics, and Laser Treatment Center at Al-Sabeen Maternity and Childhood Hospital.
The center is designed to provide specialized medical services in dermatology and laser treatments, marking a significant milestone in the improvement of healthcare services in the country.
At the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Shaiban was briefed by Dr. Majida al-Khatib, the hospital director, and Dr. Mutea Abu Areij, senior consultant dermatologist and assistant secretary-general of the Yemeni Council for Medical Specialties, about the center’s state-of-the-art equipment and the services it will offer.
The center includes a fully equipped laboratory and pharmacy, and will provide treatment for skin diseases, venereal diseases, as well as cosmetic and laser procedures.
The Minister of Health praised the hospital's leadership and staff for their dedication to improving medical services despite the challenging circumstances Yemen is currently facing.
He emphasized the center’s importance in addressing the growing need for specialized dermatological care, especially for women and children, and noted that the center’s establishment was a result of the hospital's own self-financing efforts.
Dr. Shaiban also highlighted the ministry's ongoing work to enhance services at al-Sabeen Hospital, including plans for opening a new kidney dialysis center and expanding other medical facilities in the near future.
Dr. al-Khatib described the Dermatology Center as the first government facility in Yemen to treat skin and venereal diseases with advanced laser technology.
She explained that the center employs the latest laser equipment to treat scars, deformities, and burns at affordable prices, with an average of more than 25 cases being treated daily. In addition to patient care, the center will also serve as a training hub for doctors, offering board certification training in dermatology.
Dr. Abu Areij highlighted the collaboration between the hospital and the Yemeni Council for Medical Specialties in the creation of the center. He noted that the increasing prevalence of skin diseases, particularly among women and children, had underscored the need for such a facility. The center will not only provide much-needed treatments but also play a vital role in educating and training the next generation of dermatologists.
In recognition of their efforts, Dr. Shaiban, along with other key figures including Dr. Athmar Hussein, the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Council for Medical Specialties, and Dr. Nojoud Dirham al-Badani, Consultant of Dermatology and Venereology, were honored with the hospital's shield. The hospital's deputy directors and several distinguished medical staff members were also recognized for their contributions to the project.
This inauguration is seen as a vital step forward in Yemen's healthcare sector, improving access to specialized care and offering hope for many patients in need of dermatological and laser treatments.
