Taiz - Saba:

Member of the Supreme Political Council, Sultan Al-Sami'i, and Acting Governor of Taiz, Ahmed Amin Al-Massawi, inspected today the ongoing work to rehabilitate Taiz International Airport in preparation for its reopening and the resumption of flights.

During the visit, Al-Sami'i and Al-Massawi were briefed on efforts to remove waste, rehabilitate the old runway, and establish a new runway east and west of the airport, in addition to building reception and departure halls instead of what was destroyed by the aggression.

Al-Sami'i stressed the importance of accelerating the pace of work to complete the project, noting that Taiz Airport is a vital artery serving several governorates, including Taiz, Ibb, Lahj, and Al-Dhalea. He also praised the national efforts made by engineers and local cadres to implement the project.

For his part, the Acting Governor, Ahmed Al-Massawi, explained that these efforts come as a translation of the directives of the leadership of the revolution and the Supreme Political Council, stressing the importance of preparing the airport to be ready to receive domestic and international flights, in a way that alleviates the suffering of citizens resulting from the ongoing blockade.

The Director General of the airport, Nabil Ahmed Shamsan, pointed to the progress in studies and designs for the new projects, stressing the completion of studies related to the construction of the east-west runway funded by the Arab Fund for Development, with the expectation of starting implementation as soon as the funding is approved.

Al-Samaie and Al-Massawi also listened to an explanation from the engineering team on the initial operating requirements, including the construction of operational buildings, departure, and arrival halls, as well as the preparation of technical, navigational, and security systems.

The preliminary works included cleaning the south-north runway of dust and disintegrating materials, and improving the rainwater drainage system to ensure the airport's readiness for the next operational phase.
