The commemoration of this day is an occasion to remind the international community and draw its attention once again to the fact that the Palestinian issue has not yet found its way to a solution and is still at a standstill, despite the issuance of many international resolutions that affirm the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state and the necessity of ending the entity. Zionist for its "illegal" occupation and "withdrawal" from the Palestinian territories .

On November 29 of each year, the world celebrates the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, a day designated by the United Nations General Assembly since 1977. This year, it comes at a time when civilians in the Gaza Strip have been subjected since October 7, 2023, to a war of genocide and systematic and deliberate Zionist targeting through a policy of forced displacement, ethnic cleansing, killing, starvation, deprivation of aid, and targeting hospitals, in a plan aimed at eliminating the Palestinian presence and the Gazans, of whom approximately 45,000 Palestinians have been martyred so far, most of them women, children, and the elderly, in addition to tens of thousands of wounded and the near-total destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure .

In his message on the occasion, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that on this day of every year, the international community stands in solidarity with the dignity of the Palestinian people, their rights, the justice of their cause and their right to self-determination. He pointed out that commemorating the anniversary this year is particularly painful because these basic goals are further out of reach than they have ever been .

Guterres stressed that it is time for an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional release of all hostages; and an end to the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory, as confirmed by the International Court of Justice and the General Assembly . He appealed for full support for life-saving humanitarian relief to the Palestinian people, particularly through the work of UNRWA, the agency that represents an indispensable lifeline for millions of Palestinians .

Our Palestinian people are being subjected to a war of genocide that has been ongoing for more than 400 days.” He pointed out that the international community adopted this international day “to support the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is their right to self-determination and the independence of their state.”

He stressed that "ignoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people over the past 76 years, cooperating with the occupation entity as a state above international law, providing it with protection to escape accountability and prosecution, and therefore punishment for its crimes, and even providing it with financial and military support, encouraged it to challenge international legitimacy and international law and persist in its aggression at all levels."
