German study: UV radiation levels rise in central Europe
[29/ November/2024]
Berlin - Saba:
A recent German study has revealed an unexpected rise in ultraviolet radiation levels in parts of central Europe in recent decades, the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection announced on Friday.

The study, published in the journal Photochemical and Biological Sciences, showed that UV radiation in the area around the western German city of Dortmund rose by more than ten percent between 1997 and 2022, while around Brussels, Belgium, it increased by about 20 percent during the same period.

The study was based on data collected from measuring stations in Dortmund and around Brussels, and revealed that the personal exposure to UV radiation of the population in Germany may be increasing significantly. It suggests that excessive exposure to UV radiation may increase the risk of diseases such as skin cancer.
