The College of Medical Sciences at Dhamar University organized a scientific awareness seminar on the rational use of antibiotics.
During the seminar, which was held in conjunction with the World Antibiotic Awareness Week, the University President, Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, referred to the university's community role in raising awareness about various issues, especially health, which is a special priority.
He emphasized the importance of raising awareness of the danger of the negative use of antibiotics, and the need to expand awareness-raising events to include various groups to avoid the risk of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
The seminar included a number of presentations by the Vice Dean of the College of Medical Sciences for Academic Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Haifi, the Director of the Central Health Laboratories Branch in Dhamar, Dr. Asia Al-Sabari, Dr. Khalid Al-Akhali, and Dr. Adel Al-Thihani, on topics related to the types of antibiotics, methods of raising awareness about them, laboratory errors and their relationship with antibiotic resistance.
It emphasized the importance of raising awareness of the risk of antibiotic resistance and using them responsibly to minimize the emergence of resistant bacteria, which may lead to more serious medical conditions.
The seminar recommended that pharmacists contribute to raising awareness of the dangers of irrational use of antibiotics, to refrain from dispensing them without a medical prescription, incomplete doses.
