Japanese stock indices rose in morning trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Monday.
According to Japanese media, the benchmark Nikkei index of 225 stocks added 36.92 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 39,197.42 points.
The broader Topix added 3.70 points, or 0.14 percent, to 2,738.26.
